About John Knox Christian School

Purpose and Goals

John Knox Christian School was founded in 1958 by Christian parents who believed that the education of their children was a parental responsibility and that such education must be Christ-centered. We reaffirm that vision today. The basis of John Knox Christian School is the infallible Word of God, as founded in the Old and New Testaments and as confessed in the protestant reformed creedal standards.

John Knox seeks to reflect in its operation the assurance that, "Children are a heritage of the Lord." (Psalm 127:3> At John Knox, children are regarded as holy unto the Lord, each one a precious and unique image-bearer of God. As a Christian school, John Knox seeks to expand the horizons of its students, deepen their insight, improve their abilities, and guide them along the path that leads to wisdom. The teachers at John Knox strive to lead the children to live the truth of the words of Matthew 22:37-39.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second like it, you shall love your neighbour as yourself.

Mission Statement

John Knox Christian School exists in partnership with the home and the church to train each student to integrate the truth of God as presented in His Word into every area of life. The primary goal of John Knox is to equip and encourage students to strive for maturity in Christ, so that all students may manifest Christ-likeness in character, conduct, and knowledge of the world in which they live.

Parent Involvement

Parents have the primary and ultimate responsibility to nurture and educate their children in the fear and knowledge of the Lord. Parents delegate a degree of authority to the school and its teachers. Parents are actively involved in the school, serving as classroom volunteers, librarians, on various committees, or as elected to the Board of Directors. The interest and involvement of all members is encouraged and welcomed by both Board and staff.

School Administration

John Knox Christian School is maintained by its membership. All decisions pertaining to the running of the school are made by a Board of Directors. Members are elected to a three year Board term.

All members of the teaching staff are fully qualified, holding degrees and/or teaching certificates from accredited colleges and universities. The teachers are called to convey a Christian perspective in each subject area and in matters of discipline.
